Sound Producing Systems

Using Steel Tubes, a simple arrangement coupled with sustainable means (wind) can produce a friendly interaction. Although coachella is windy enough, the only drawback here is that the venue will not be quiet enough to produce an audible sound.


Wind Powered Kinetics

In addition to this sound producing system above, we could add plastic bags at the ends of these tubes and allow them to puff up and deflate just by using the natural wind.


I am working on finding a system that will flutter in the wind. This could be a very simple system that works with fins that would be attached along the structural system which would be blown by an fan upwards causing forward and backward swaying. Much like this guy over here..

Day 2?



My next step is to translate my drawn idea into computer form and analyze issues that arise in the process. This simple model was done in sketch up. I attempted to add color to the model in order to evoke a mood, for you see, the exhibit is very much a mood piece. I've shown a close up of a proxy, however, I have not modeled them in the renderings. The proxies would be located at every intersection. You will notice that the occurrence of these proxies will increase and condense as the users approach the perceived center. The model also shows the ability for fabric to be drawn from one proxy to another in order to form shading.

I had designed the proxies to have within them, colored bulbs or LED's as well as a number of misters to constantly cool the users as they inhabited the exhibit.

Day 1

The purpose of my scheme is to allow the user to get more involved and more enveloped in the exhibit as he/she travels deeper into the space. The concept follows closely with the idea of Proxemics. Areas are defined with "Proxies" (nodes) that have tubes that extend out to form legs, extend and connect to other "Proxies" to create a multi-directional wall. The "Proxies" themselves can be used as spotlights and/or misters. Also, fabric can stretch from one node to another to form panels for shading.

It is important to note that as one gets deeper into the space, the nodes or "Proxies" become more dense and the connections between "Proxies" become more dense, allowing less and less people to occupy the inner cloisters.
